Laps 1-10
How the First 10 Laps Have to Be
My friend hates this kind of talk
Don't tell me how things have to be
Tell me what to do and I will do it differently out of spite alone
The spiteful defiance message to resist obstinance - is a gift to anyone
It's a gift from - Swim Angel Page
Sent with fullest enthusiasm
And warmest regards
Being obstinate is part of my astrologic disposition
Still I persist - because I'm talking about end results
It would sadden me to arouse resistance in others
When I'm speaking about things in which we don't disagree
There are musts in this world - We will all have a first meal of that day
We will all ultimately need to end our day and sleep for some time
I'm not saying you can't eat ice cream for breakfast
I'm not saying you can't sleep in a chair
How you your results - is your business
Defying everything just to defy - is pointless
This is about the first 10 laps
And the rest of them for that matter
There's a role and need for each of them
It will change over time but surprisingly little
You won't be swimming in your shoes and clothes
So just admit there are some things that can be accepted as musts
I went through this routine - learned it forward and back
I am confident my experience can parlay to your benefit
Taking breaks is not forbidden but also not needed
Every fifth lap was used as a rolling rest
In that way my heart rate stays down
These are sports coaching tricks
I'm innovative like that
I was using kickboards on every fifth lap
Then I modified my program and got away from that
Still I take the rolling rest opportunities - that keeps me moving
In the first year it's so hard to develop the endurance to keep the workouts going
That constant movement ends up giving us massive distance advantage over time
The exposure to longer distance normalizes our experience and therefore expectations
Every other swimming lap has optional resting strokes for the same reason
It keeps heart rate down - while keeping me moving and adding distance
Being able to transition between breast/back stroke & free style
Was the first freedom that got me swimming miles
It's a freedom many people never considered
I was in a kind of mental jail until I did that
My workout does not require me to leave my heart training zone at all
That's what I'm saying about why the first ten laps
"Have to be" - "That way"
I'm a rebel too, you rebel
If you're going to have long term workout health
You'll need to stay within your training zone
The laps can't make you over-tired
Heart rate is like food or sleep
If the laps overwork you
All the results are bad
Overwork is out of zone
You'll either lose interest
1) Take yourself out of the fun zone
2) Make it too hard on yourself or the worst option
3) Create a painful, unnecessary injury based on user error
Those are the three ways to screw your real chances
Out of zone here and there is not a problem at all
Continuously failing to regulate your stamina
Is an enormous large-scale problem
That can cripple your future
Basically if you don't moderate yourself, you'll end in one of three ways guaranteed
It doesn't have to be hard and it shouldn't hurt that much
Please take a moment again to aver to yourself at this time
You're doing this for health and capacity - not for cheap vanity and looks
Vanity and looks is a great side effect of this practice - but a terrible muse
Vanity and looks end up being a beneficial side-result if you win it in the kitchen
This is gorgeous picture of the two ladies blissfully floating
This is how I feel often feel when I'm swimming with training aides
This feeling that is conveyed with this birds-eye photo is how my swim wants to be
Avoiding burnout is the reason it "has" to be like this, rebel
It's because you have to be kind to yourself to keep this going
You need to do this all year if you're going to get beneficial results
This is how I feel when I'm 10-15 laps in & my blood is full of life giving oxygen
Please don't take exception to my words as I share the imperative in staying healthy
Staying health is the way to keep doing this, which is the way to get looks and capacity
Staying in the workout zone is a new concept to a lot of people
If you've never worked with a heart rate monitor - I hope you will try
That is a topic that is beyond the scope of what I'm doing here in swim
Suffice to say, between your age and your weight
You have recommendation about your heart beats
If your heart is beating too fast - you're out of zone
